The Biosensor Research Center is one of three centers affiliated with the Cellular and Molecular Sciences Research Institute, part of the Research Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Tehran University of Medical Sciences and Health Services. Initially established in 2008 as the "Biosensor Group," it was upgraded to a Research Center in 2012.
In recent years, the application of biosensors in public health has been well established. Regular measurement of analytes in biological samples is crucial for indicating the metabolic conditions of patients, particularly those hospitalized and, more importantly, those in intensive care units. Point of Care Testing (POC) systems are simple, sensitive, specific, and cost-effective, capable of identifying biomarkers at home, in a physician's office, at the patient's bedside, and even in the workplace. The design and development of such tests are essential for effective disease management and appropriate treatment selection. In many disorders, biomarker levels in the early stages of disease are often below threshold concentrations, making detection with existing laboratory methods challenging. High-sensitivity POC tests enable early disease detection and assessment of disease recurrence after treatment.
